Mark 4:35–41
“Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?” — Mark 4:40 (KJV)
There are storms you can see—and storms nobody knows you are facing.
Sometimes the storm is in your family.
Sometimes it is in your finances.
Sometimes it is in your marriage.
Sometimes it is in your career, ministry, education, or future.
And sometimes, the greatest storm is happening inside your heart.
You prayed, but the situation became worse.
You trusted God, but the door remained closed.
You believed for healing, but the pain continued.
You expected an answer, but heaven seemed silent.
But hear this today:
The presence of a storm does not mean the absence of Jesus.
The disciples were in a storm, but Jesus was in the boat.
Your storm may be real, but so is the presence of Christ.
You may be going through the storm, but you are not going through it alone.
Spiritual Insight.
A storm can test your faith without destroying your future.
2. JESUS MAY SEEM SILENT, BUT HE IS STILL PRESENT.
Mark 4:38
The disciples cried:
“Master, carest thou not that we perish?”
Notice something powerful.
Jesus was in the boat even when they thought they were alone.
They confused His silence with His absence.
How often do we do the same thing?
“God, where are You?”
“Lord, don’t You see what I’m going through?”
“Why haven’t You answered me?”
But remember:
Silence is not absence.
There are moments when God does not immediately change your circumstances because He is doing something deeper—building your faith, developing your endurance, or teaching you to trust His presence.
Psalm 46:1 says:
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
Not a distant help.
A very present help.
3. JESUS HAS AUTHORITY OVER THE STORM.
Mark 4:39
Jesus arose and said:
“Peace, be still.”
And immediately the wind ceased.
The disciples discovered that the storm was not greater than their Master.
The waves had power, but Jesus had greater authority.
The wind was loud, but the voice of Christ was greater.
The situation looked impossible, but Jesus was not intimidated.
Whatever storm you are facing today, remember:
Your problem may be bigger than you, but it is not bigger than Jesus.
You may not know how the situation will end, but you can trust the One who knows the end from the beginning.
4. SOMETIMES JESUS CALMS THE STORM; SOMETIMES HE STRENGTHENS YOU THROUGH IT.
This is an important spiritual truth.
We often pray:
“Lord, remove the storm.”
And there are times when God does exactly that.
But sometimes God says:
“I will walk with you through it.”
Isaiah 43:2 says:
“When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee.”
Notice the wording:
“When thou passest through.”
God did not say there would never be waters.
He promised:
“I will be with thee.”
The greatest miracle is not always that the storm disappears.
Sometimes the miracle is that you remain standing while the storm is raging.
5. DON’T ALLOW THE STORM TO MAKE YOU FORGET WHO IS IN YOUR BOAT.
The disciples looked at the waves and became afraid.
But Jesus wanted them to look beyond the waves.
Fear asks:
“What if I fail?”
Faith asks:
“Who is with me?”
Fear focuses on the size of the storm.
Faith focuses on the greatness of God.
Fear says:
“I am finished.”
Faith says:
“God is still working.”
Fear says:
“There is no way.”
Faith says:
“God can make a way.”
Remember:
The size of your storm does not determine the size of your God.
Mark 4:35–41
The disciples were experienced fishermen. They understood the sea.
But this storm was beyond their ability.
They became terrified.
Then they woke Jesus.
Jesus stood and commanded the storm to be still.
Afterwards, He asked:
“Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?”
The remarkable thing is that Jesus did not only calm the storm.
He was also teaching the disciples about faith.
The storm revealed what was inside them.
Sometimes God allows us to encounter situations beyond our human ability so that we can discover that His ability is greater than ours.
Beloved, the storm is not the end of your story.
The disciples thought they were going to die.
But Jesus knew they were going somewhere.
They saw the waves.
Jesus saw the other side.
They saw danger.
Jesus saw destination.
They saw the storm.
Jesus knew His authority.
And today, I want you to remember one simple truth:
Don’t throw away your faith because of one difficult season.
Don’t abandon your purpose because of one painful chapter.
Don’t conclude that God has forgotten you because the answer has not yet come.
Keep praying.
Keep believing.
Keep obeying.
Keep trusting.
Keep moving.
The wind may be strong.
The waves may be high.
The night may be dark.
But Jesus is with you.
And if Jesus is in the boat, there is still hope for the journey.
Your storm may be real, but your Saviour is greater.
Hold on to Jesus.
The same Christ who was with you when the journey began will be with you when you reach the other side.
If you are passing through a storm today, don’t face it alone. Take it to Jesus in prayer.
And if you know someone who is going through a difficult season, send this message to them. Your encouragement may be the reminder they need today:
“Be strong. Don’t give up. Jesus is still with you.”
